Solomons 2002-2003: some pics with C5050 & PT015

  1. Some pics with my new digicam gear:

Olympus C5050 & PT015, Ikelite DS125 Substrobe and Ultralight arms.

  2. Wreck at Yandina

  3. Crayfish at The Cave, Maravagi

  4. Just one more... juv. lionfish

  5. Did you use a add on lens or just the camera lens? Also, I keep noticing that most users of the olympus housing say that it makes a popping noise as they go deeper with it. Does this happen with your PT-015 housing? What was your depth when taking these pics?

By the way, good pics. How long have you been involved with UW photography?

  6. Moved to the proper forum.

  7. These pics were taken with the C5050's default lens. Yes, the PT015 pops from time to time. I've taken it to 38-40m and it's a bit disconcerting when it pops at depth! But everything good so far.

The pics were taken at various depths - the clam at < 10m, wreck about 30m, crayfish and lionfish about 20m.

This was my first attempt at UW photography.

  8. The exposures on the spotfin lionfish and that beautiful clam are spot on - Superb!

  9. Whats all this poppin about then? Does it only happen at a certain depth? A bit worrying that.

  10. I have talked to Ikelite users and they don't mention any popping from their housings but I don't guess that matters. Has anyone heard of a olympus housing flooding? Also, what is the life span of a UW housing?

  11. The popping happens at random - there's no particular depth and out of the 20++ dives I've only noticed it maybe 2-3 times.

Has anyone heard of a olympus housing flooding?

Someone I know flooded an old (C2 era) olympus housing but he had very poor eyesight and didn't have his glasses when he did - so I'd say that that doesn't count! :freak:

Also, what is the life span of a UW housing?

Good question that, always wondered about it. Those little non-servicable o-rings on all the buttons are a bit of a worry.

One thing I did notice was the very good seal the PT015 has - the door is very hard to open after a dive. Anyone else experience this on other housings? The double o-ring is comforting. Did anyone read the post about someone going down with one o-ring thinking the second was a spare - that was amusing :)
