New Arms and Clamps

3 posts
  1. I am looking into getting new arms for my setup. I currently have two DS-125 with the standard Ikelite arm package. With either of my lens/port combos my rig is slightly negative (~1kg), and wants to rotate port up.

I am thinking that if I get ULCS buoancy arms that they might bring my rig closer to neutral, and maybe help with the port's tendency to spin up.

My plan is to get an 8" and 12" segment for each strobe. Does anyone have experence with a similar setup that can comment on the amount of buoyancy it provides?

Also, I remember reading somewhere that the "new style" AC-CSF clamps could not handle the weight of DS-125s, but I can't seem to find that write-up anymore. Can any one comment on this?

And one last question, is there any reason to buy new strobe and handle adapters? Or, can I just continue to use the Ikelite ones? They are both one inch balls, and the only difference is that the ULCS ones have an o-ring in them. Any thoughts?

  2. Beside few degrees side movement, I would expect AC-CSF clamps to be the less tight way and have chosen the traditional clamps. So I’ve never tried AC-CSF clamps.

As you say both are one inch balls. My DS125 strobes have the Ikelite balls and are held by ULCS clamps without problems.

  3. I have several of the ULCS buoyancy arms, and it is my understanding that they don't add ANY buoyancy - they simply offset their own weight and are therefore neutral. IOW, the amount by which they increase your buoyancy will actually be the amount your current arms are NEGATIVE. They simply remove that negative buoyancy. HTH,
