Ikelite D200 with Ikelite SS200

  1. I'm about to get a D200 housing. I will initially be using an SS200 with this. I was reading from some posts in Dec 2005 that there was some issues with connecting the non DS strobes to the iTTL circutry.

Does any one know if this has been resolved in the newer housings? I eventially want a DS-125, but one step at a time.

    Thanks,

    Ron

  2. Hi Ron.....welcome to Wetpixel :D

If you are going to get an Ikelite D200 housing you will need the DS series strobes to work the iTTL.

If you are getting any of the other housings, your SS200 should work fine in manual...iTTL will not be an option.

  3. You can still use your SS200 with the Ikelite D200 housing, but you will need to have the right cord, and your strobe will only work in manual (which is fine).

Consult your dealer to find the right cord, or alternative method to set the strobe up in manual.

  4. James is right in that you CAN use the SS200 with a Nikon D200 in manual mode and an "old" cord". But having a spectacular camera such as a D200 and not being able to simply control your flash via Ikelite's iTTL knob in iTTL OR manual flash without having to reach up to the strobe head is kinda' like buying a nice car and skimping on tires.

If you have a SS200, and want to keep costs down initially then use it. But upgrading to a DS200 (or twin DS125s or whatever DS capabale Ikelite strobes) will help you get the max out of that D200.

    YMMV

  5. That sounds good Dave - however, I'm a big SS200 fan. I'm not sure I'd make a recommendation to upgrade from the SS200 to the DS200 - which is essentially the same strobe but can do TTL. Good pt about the power knob though, if you're going to use both strobes at the same power, that will work.

    Cheers
