I am thinking of a dive trip to Cocos in February '07.
A competing dive operator told me that February is not a good time for Cocos.
Anyone have any experience or thoughts?

Well, I researched seasons there fairly recently for my April trip. The facts that I gathered (from reading every trip report ever written it seemed like!) were that February is the dry season, so you're liable to have better viz and flatter seas. However, the hammerheads appear to be more predictable in the wet season (May through Oct or Nov or so). However, if you read the little "trip reports" on the Sea Hunter website, and people's trip reports, you can tell that trips in every month have hammerheads, and trips in every month get skunked. Hammers are more regular during the wet season, but they are still there quite a bit in the dry season. I just went in April, and the dive guides said we had about as good of hammerhead encounters as you get.
That said, our guides said there is definitely a season for whale sharks, but I can't remember what it is. And the marble ray conventions happen around october/november.
That's all I know, hope that helps. And BTW, read up on the different boats. Big difference from what I read. Maybe a big price difference too, not sure.
Good luck!

I went in August. Plenty of hammerheads, PLENTY of rain, no whale sharks, no mantas, no courting Marbled Rays.
Thanks for your input guys; from the dive logs it looks like a great trip even in February; I'm thinking of a Stan Waterman trip then.
