i have just added a sea and sea ys90 auto duo to my sony P12. i have played around with it out of the water and have found that i can use the strobe without attatching the fibre optic cable. can anyone tell me what the difference is by using it or by not using it.

from what i can see, the cable makes sure the flash fires. depending on how you position your strobe arm, the flash may not know the camera flash has fired- which is how it is slaved. it seems the camera in a housing makes a direct connection to the external flash impossible.
