Gates FX1 Housing

  1. Well I received my Gates housing a few weeks ago, and have been mostly getting pool shots so far... trying to get used to the bulkiness compared to my other camera setup. I plan to have it on the reef this Friday. So far it seems pretty straight forward, and I really like the housing. Great product....

Curious if anyone else has this particular setup and would be willing to share any of their lessons learned? There has been lots of great information posted here, so thanks to all that have contributed.

One of the questions I do have is about the lense cover. With my Ikelite setup I typically place the lense cover on the housing prior to handing it up to the boat, plus it keeps it protected from other stray diving buddies appendages during the safety stop... Seeing how the lense on this video setup is so large, has anyone else contemplated how to keep the lense cover close at hand while diving without requiring a seperate mesh bag for it?

  2. Can't advice on the housing - sorry.

RE Lens protection - Best bet would be to fashion your own cover out of a large patch of 3mm neoprene, elastic, a needle and some good strong thread.........

If you're diving in a jacket-style BC then you could just stuff it in your pocket during the dive and pull it out when you need it...

Otherwise if you can't tuck it away anywhere, then a few further lines of elastic and it will attatch to your housing in an infinitely different variety of ways.....

Whatever you're comfy with though at the end of the day...
