Who said Bonaire have no big fish ?

  1. Just returned from a 10 days trip to Bonaire and i can say that in terms of u/w photography must be the best overall destination on the Caribbean .

Being able to dive from shore allows to make long bottom times and is possible to repeat the same dive sites at different times of the dayat your own pace . On top of this add great vis , no current and a lot of subjects and you have the perfect place for u/w photography.

A bonus is the drive thru system where you can pick your nitrox tanks from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

directly from the rented p/u truck.

Also a pleasant surprise for me was the amount of small restaurants with very good to excellent food. ( Monalisa , Casablanca , Pasa Bon pizza , Bamboo, Capriccio and Donna & Giorgio were my favorites )

My favorite dive was at the Hilma Hooker with a huge jewfish ( almost 7 ft. long ) that follow me the whole dive within touching distance .

Here a pic of my new friend

Good to see that the big guys are still around.

I remember a case in the mid '70's where two divers were on a rig off Grand Isle, La. A goliath grouper (AKA Jewfish) swallowed one of the divers. The buddy shot to the surface in a panic. Fortunately, the fish has a big mouth but a small stomach. As many fish will do when they eat something unpalatable, it spit him out. He surfaced dazed and confused. It had happened so fast, he didn't even know what had happened. His buddy had to tell him!

    GO FIGURE!
