Can I ask a quick question? I was recently using a Sea & Sea 750G with a YS15 strobe. This is a manual strobe that synchs via a slave sensor. I was just wondering how I can control exposure with this set up? The flash is manual; but the camera is full auto, so I can’t tweak my aperture according to the guide number/distance relationship.
Anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks
Ian.
Ian,
I can give you my personal experience with the 750G and housing with the same flash. Spent 2 frustrationg weeks in Roatan with it. Could not get the manual white balace to work. Flash was fine at 2-3 feet, but easy to overexpose. No aperature or shutter speed control made for many blurry pictures. Biggest problem was not getting good colors at 30 feet or more-- all blue!
If I try another sea&sea, it would probably be the 8000. Should have researched it more completely before buying.

Ian,
I got so busy relating my frustration with my system, that I didn't really address your question. The YS-15 is very compact, but very limited WRT user controls. Why sea and sea didn't include a control (rheostat like) is a mystery to me. The advice given to me by the photo pro at Coco View Resort (thanks Tim if you ever see this!) was to always use the diffuser, and play with the arm and flash position to get it as far away as possible. I found macro difficult not to overexpose--minus 1.5ev helped.
I loved the fact that it wasn't a fussy camera, that had to be handed to me in the water. I just held it close, and jumped in.
Hope this helps
George
Thanks for the advice George. B)
I too had some difficulty with the custom white balance as it wasn't obvious that you have to select it in the menu and then use the main shutter release to set it.
I love the housing that Sea & Sea have put together for the 750G, but it's just a shame the camera hasn't got a few more features. And I agree that to put a power control on the flash would have made sense.
I'll let you know how it goes when I try it out over the summer.
Cheers again,
Ian.
wait....what was that last part again....you press the MAIN SHUTTER RELEASE TO SET?
