Cut Sync Cable

  1. I was unpacking from this weekend's dives and noticed a gash in my sync cable. After clearing away the crud that was growing, I could see that only the red wire (ready light) was cut. The cable still works fine, but I am afarid to use it in its current condition.

Does anyone know a good way to seal it so that it is watertight again? Also because of the position of the cut, it would probably need to be flexable.

  2. Although it hasn't happened to me, a buddy nicked the cord to his dive light. The cut was pretty similar to yours, through the jacket without damaging the conductors. By the time we surfaced, his battery cannister was flooded.

Given the possible consequences here, a flood going into both sockets, I wouldn't chance a cobbled together repair, and retire it.

Of course, if I was near the end of a trip, with a spectacular dive still to be done, I'd probabaly try a fix with a glob of silicone and electrical tape. Assuming my spare had failed, too.

    All the best, James
