Yup. It happened to me again. I encountered some really bad luck on the first dive of another major trip.
On my first dive of 15 days of diving, my Canon 20D locked up in the middle of the dive. I suspect the problem had to do with me leaving the camera out in high humidity. The camera is supposedly weather sealed, but hey it should still be covered up. A few days later I was then able to boot the camera up for a dive. On the 3rd dive with the 20D, the housing sprang a leak thru a push button. I got in 2 partial and 1 full dive with my main rig. I also brought my Dell Inspiron 710m and left it in humidity while charging. It too stop working for a couple days.
Well then, at least I had my $230 Oly SP350 backup. I did 37 dives with it. Here are a couple non-cropped shots followed by a few cropped shots to show the capacity of the camera. I definitely lost alot of shots that I know I would have got with a DSLR, but hey, bottomline, I still had fun.
Due to some quirks with the camera, I concentrated on lighting as an aid to exposure during this trip.
This was definitely a wild trip. I was attacked by a sea snake, moray eel, and planted my hand on a scorpion fish. Later a mantis shrimp attacked my port with an attempted death blow. I'll be back visiting him with my macro mate to teach him a lesson.
Up close of octopus.

The mantis shrip that tried to crack my port!

just a shot.

cropped squat lobster (about 20% of original image)

cropped obligatory pygmy (about 50% of original image - it took 4 dives and about 300 attempts to get this with the Oly 350) btw - I shot this one on a night dive alone with no help holding sea fans nor using pointing devices as visual cues.

the rest of my favorites from the Lembeh portion of the trip:
