Redang Malaysia Recommendations

  1. I'm currently debating on whether to take a dive master course in the Perhentians or in Redang (both in peninsular Malyasia). I have heard that Redang is a better dive location, but I can't seem to get any info on reputable dive shops on the island. It seems as though there are only small dive shops at the hotels with no advanced courses available.

Does anyone have some experience with diving in Redang? If so, is there a local dive shop that you would recommend along with perhaps a website or contact info?

    Thanks.

  2. Hi Mark,

I've been diving both Redang and Perhentian for a number of years. The diving at both locations is quite comparable. The two islands are only an hour's boat ride from each other...

As for operators, I'd recommend Watercolours (www.watercoloursworld.com) on Perhentian, and Redang Kalong (www.redangkalong.com) on Redang. Both offer DM courses, have similar types of accomodation (basic, but comfortable), and nice dive centre setups. Mike and Anke on Perhentian, and AB and Sharon on Redang, run the respective dive centres.

  3. I usually go to bubbles dive resort http://www.bubblesdc.com/ on Pulau Perhentian. They are very good instructers, and the diving is quite good.

The resort is in a really quiet cove, and is quite comfortable.

  4. Agree with Matt on this one - Redang Kalong - I've dove both areas as well and while they are comparable, I would lean towards Redang a little more myself - on the diving side - if I had to choose a long term place to get a DM.
