I'm supposed to be a newbie on underwater photography. And, I'm planning to get a Panasonic LUMIX DMC TZ1 digicam together with its Panasonic made DMW-MCTZ1E underwater case. It is in the first and new range of series for Panasonic U/W digital photography.
What are your opinions? or Are there any recommendations for different alternatives?

Thanx!
I think I would rather go with something that has been tried and tested and not be the first to try something so new, bold move and good luck.
Somebody has to be first! I was about the first one with an SP-350, which had very poor reviews in the Photography mags, and I've been thrilled with it. There is a learning curve, though. You'll find that since nobody else has one, you become the "expert". Accessories for a brand new model can also be a big challenge. I like the idea of 10x optical zoom though. For similar models, you might also check out the Sony, or the Canon S1IS.
In bang for buck, you can't go wrong with the SP-350 either, or the Canon S80 if you can live without RAW capture and a hotshoe flash.
