Help picking a strobe

3 posts
  1. I purchased a Fugi f810 last year with a Iklite housing. I am having trouble with it in cold water and I need a strobe to be able to turn the flash off to conserve battery power, What is the best strobe for this set up?

  2. Because the F810 doesn't have a hotshoe or any other method of triggering the flash, you are always going to need to leave the flash on. However, you can turn the flash exposure compensation on to save a little power. I would recommend either an Inon D2000S, or perhaps the new Sea and Sea YS27DX. I haven't personally used the Sea and Sea, so you will need to look into that more.

The other method of saving batteries on the F810 is ensure you turn the camera and monitor off as soon as you have reviewed the shot - this appears to help a lot.

If you are looking for a second strobe, speak to one of the sites sponsors such as Ryan at Reef Photo Video. He will provide you with good advice.

  3. I've used Inons and Ike DS50's with the F810 in cold and warm water diving. I like the reliability of the Inon better.

AND, I just happen to have a barely used Inon D2000 FS for $515, see the classifieds or it's on EBay: D2000 Strobe on EBay, starting bid $475!
