For those of you who don't check the "other" site.... ![]()
I thought you might like to see this little collaboration that I did with "Honza", my descriptions and pics from 7 consecutive (late) nights on Bonaire's extraordinary Town Pier and his awesome artwork that really captures the "essence" of the dive/people, creatures, etc.
I'll just paste in my original description of events below, of course it can't compete with the Sardine Run!!!
But then "Tarzan" is about the coolest froggie I've ever encountered............., and I don't think he'd consider joining a bait-ball in South Africa...... ![]()
This is dedicated to local resident Ellen, for her wonderful dive accompaniment, stories, help, advice, her inspiring stellar photo captures, etc., on my first visit to Bonaire!
Hope you like it! Carol (PS huge kudos to Honza for his wonderful artwork and patience, and also to randapex for supplying photos of myself and Ryan for Honza to draw from, the others, well are just from my descriptions....)
"Honza and I have been working on this post for nearly two weeks now. It is a joint effort, some of Carol's pics from the Town Pier, Bonaire, and Honza's wonderful artwork.
I had remembered that Ellen said she would love to see Honza's "rendition" of the Town Pier. I was fortunate enough to be able to make it to Bonaire recently on the ReefPhoto trip, and well after diving the Town Pier seven nights in a row, Ellen dubbed me an official "Town Pier Addict". I wonder if there is a group for that, TPA (Town Pier Anonymous)????..... you think??? :![]()
So I asked Honza if he could use my photos to get an idea of the Town Pier and make a rendition to make Ellen smile. ![]()
Thank goodness Honza was patient with me cause like a typical woman I couldn't decide which pics to use, wanted to change things, etc. He was most understanding and accommodating I must say!!
I'm sure the drawings will be much more "vivid" when Honza gets to see it for himself (see if said "when" not "if"!!!)
The Town Pier is completely amazing and one of the best dives in the world in my opinion.
One tip on the Town Pier though that Ellen steered us on. It is not much fun with too many divers on the Pier, so the wonderful dive guide that Ellen suggested for us, Ebby, arranged for us to dive during the weekends starting at 9pm, and the weekdays starting at 10pm. This way in all the nights I dove it I never ran into any other divers, just us on the Town Pier!!
Sweet!! Plus I think there were more creatures out later too. Yes, it did mess up my dive/sleep schedule a bit during the day but I survived in tact with tons of great memories and a pile of wonderful photos. And since there is no diving allowed on the Town Pier when a boat is tied up there, who knows if the next time I get to Bonaire I'll have the opportunity to dive it so much, and have the pier to ourselves. In fact if a boat is tied up there you can't dive the Town Pier at all, so I'm glad myself and others from the group seized upon the great opportunity.
Note: I'm going to post two renditions and you can decide which you like best. The first are the final versions, packed with pics to show some of the sea-life and packed with people to acknowledge who was there........ The second pair are earlier versions that may be better if "less is more", I can't decide. Either way Jan is a master and I owe him gratitude and thanks for attempting this collaboration.
And these are dedicated to Ellen, to make her smile, we all love your wonderful pictures of the wonders of Bonaire! (I just love how Jan drew Ellen with a seahorse around her arm, that was his idea and I thought it was just right!!!) ![]()
For Ellen A Night Out on the Town Pier, Bonaire
This is of the first night we dove it.
Depicted, Ellen (the center of fish/critter attention), Ryan (yes he dove with two camera setups very much like that and was obsessed with the teardrop decorator crabs on every color sponge background!!), Carol (yup, that's me...)
Final version (see which one you like best):

Previous version (less might be better?)

This is of the third night we dove it and found "Tarzan" the frogfish!! Ebby our dive guide extraodinaire, said they hadn't seen "Tarzan" for four months or so. Ebby named him "Tarzan" and if you observed him you would know why. When detected "Tarzan" leaps!! Yes, leaps, and I captured him just touching down!! He was one of the most amazing frogfish I have ever seen and I guess it is fitting he leaps a lot cause he lives on the very vertical Town Pier! Then a few nights later we found "Jane". At least we think it is "Jane"..... And don't feel too sorry for the two of them being photoed, they get lots and lots of privacy when the ships tie up and no diving is allowed, and also it is a really big pier with lots of spongy places to hide. "Tarzan" and "Jane" looked quite contented to me and fit in real well residing at Town Pier, Bonaire!
So this is of the third night when Ebby found "Tarzan", I was right next to Ebby and let out a "squeal" of delight in my reg... (what is it about gals and froggies anyway???)
Depicted, Ebby (divemaster extraodinaire), Carol (very excited by "Tarzan"), Tommy (got to witness "Tarzan" too), and Ryan (was pulled away from his teardrop crab fetish to see "Tarzan")."
Final version (more divers, etc.)

Previous version (less divers, just me and Ebby when he spotted "Tarzan" near a yellow sponge)
