WA lenses for canon 5d

  1. Hey all,

My Aquatica housing just arrived so I'm deciding on what wide angle lens(es) I should put together with the Canon 5D. Anyone out there shooting with the 5D in an aquatica with an 8" dome port yet? Basically, I'm looking for either a set or zoom lens that's super wide and has extremely close focus abilities. Is the Sigma 10-20mm a possibility with the full frame sensor? I'm scared of major vignetting. I'm wondering if I should revisit the Canon 20mm now that I have a full frame...

  2. Welcome, Ethan! You've got a great camera, and I think you'll find an extensive discussion of lenses for it in this thread: Lenses for 5D thread

    Good luck and have fun!

  3. Welcome Ethan,

I have written a short report about the 5D with some sample photos using the 15mm fisheye, 17-40L and 24L lenses. Check it out by clicking on Reviews at right.

    Cheers

  4. Thanks Bruce and James for the links. Both were quite helpful. I'm wondering if anyone knows about using the Sigma 15mm with Aquatica's 8" dome. Possible?

  5. Yes...same as using Canon 15mm FE. Sigma focuses with objects right on the Dome.

  6. So, just to clarify, that you know of there is no vignetting with the Sigma 15mm, or the Canon 15mm lenses, with the 5D Aquatica 8" dome? If this is the case, then that'll be my WA investment for my upcoming trip to East Timor!

Didn't have my Sigma FE with me at the time, but since then have same results.

  8. Sweet shots. I guess that answers my questions. I'll pick up one of the two 15mms. Thanks to everyone who commented!

  9. I (briefly) tried the 5D with the 15mm FE last week - very nice. That was the Canon, but I hear such good things about the Sigma, that I would probably do with 3rd party choice.

  10. I used to have the Canon 15mm, now I have the Sigma - both are excellent lenses. The sigma does focus closer - it can make a difference if you do a lot of close-focus wideangle. Something I've recently started expirimenting with is putting the 15 on a teleconvertor - it was suggested by Walt Stearns, and seems to work well. There is no noticable vignetting, and it creates an intermediate lens (slightly wider than the 15 on a cropped sensor camera - 1.4x tele vx 1.6x) with the sharp corners that the 15 is known for.
