10.5 FISHEYE LENS

  1. HI ALL,

Could someone help me with port/s combination for a

    10.5mm Fisheye lens, I have a Seacam & use a wide port &

a 35mm extender which I use for my 12x24mm wide angle nikon

    could this combination be used?

    Thanks Andy :):(

  2. I both use the fisheye dome and the super dome from seacam with my 10.5 (on my D2X). Both work great. The superdome is great for split shots; but its big. Therefore I mostly use the fisheye dome. Images are super sharp. You can see some of that at:

All the wide angle shots are taken with the fisheye dome

  3. Hi Andy,

wanted a small package to use when diving w/ the fisheye and magic filter (no strobe). I tried the 15mm fisheye on my full frame 5D this weekend with the Wide Port and while it's not the recommended port, it looks pretty good. I wouldn't recommend it over the fisheye port, but it works.

    Cheers

    James

  4. Andy, i don't use Seacam but i would think you don't need the extender for the 10.5, i don't use one with mine

  5. I agree with Mike, I don't think you need an extender for the 10.5.

  6. As mentioned by cronix, both the Seacam fisheye and superdome work with the 10.5mm without extension rings, and both give great results.

I haven't tried this combination before, but I believe the 10.5mm will vignette at corners with the wideport...

  7. Yep, I use the 10.5mm Nikkor on a Subal housing with a fish-eye dome and it doesn't need an extension ring: in fact that would result in the image being clipped.

  8. HI ALL,

thanks for the replies, I will have to try one with the wide port, but

on the Seacam website it does not mention the 10.5mm & match it

with a port. AH!!!!! yes I used one of Alex's magical filters on his Red Sea

workshop which I was lucky to be on, these are truely very magical & what

    a wonderful piece of kit.

  9. Looks like you are buying a 10.5 also Andy !

  10. HI Paul,

how would you of guessed, I think you used the sigma 16mm

fisheye on the workshop? What I do not really want to do is

buy an other dome port. (More kit to lug about!!!!!!&cost)

  11. Hi Andy,

The 10.5mm takes the same port combinations as the 16mm FE - the Superdome or Fisheye port are ideal.

I use both - the Superdome is more versatile as it allows over/unders and works with the Nikon 14mm rectilinear (with a PVL 25), whereas the Fisheye Port is small and easy to travel with. I can't tell the difference in image quality between these 2 on the 10.5 (or 16).

However, as James mentions, he's managed to get the Wide Port working ok.

Personally I don't think there is much difference in size and weight between the Wide Port and the Fisheye Port, whereas the Superdome is a beast - this needs to be considered

Therefore, it may be worth noting that the 12-24 works with Superdome + PVL 35 (which you have) and the Fisheye port + PVL 25.

So my advice for an ideal port combination to use both lenses:

    - try James's idea of using the WP

    - if you're not happy sell the WP and buy a Superdome (if baggage is no prob) -you'd then add the PVL 35 when the 12-24 is mounted

    - if baggage is a consideration sell the WP and PVL 35 and buy a Fisheye port and PVL 25 (which is the smallest and cheapest option should James's suggestion not yield the results you want)

    Hope this helps

  12. I think you used the sigma 16mm

    fisheye on the workshop?

I had both the Nikon 10.5 and the Sigma 15mm - I was just hiding them from you......
