ike's lens ports, 6", 8", flat

  1. Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has used Ike's 6" dome port with the 18-70mm nikkor and how their results have been? The great folks over at Ike's could tell me that as long as the lens was less than 4" in length it would fit but I didn't gain any "results" information. The lens is 3.00 inches in length and it will need a +4.0 diopter. Anyone been using this 6" with this lens?

To further it, has anyone been using the 6" dome with the 60mm macro and have you noticed any problems? The flat port is suggested for this lens but I cannot find any problems with using it in the 6" dome so I thought I would ask you all.

To my understanding, the 8" dome would be the choice for the 12-24mm, and this could also work with the 18-70mm lens.

My thought was that the 60mm and the 18-70mm could go under the same 6" dome if there wasnt a significant reduction in performance.

Or I would put the 60mm in the flat port and the 18-70 in the 8" for a good mid-lens until I put the 12-24 in there. I just wasnt planning to use the 12-24 for a while as the next 3-4 trips are medium fish to macro concentration.

Anyone want to share their thoughts and experience?

    Thank you,

    Paquito

  2. The only disadvantage of using a dome with a macro lens is because you gain a little magnification with the flat port, and that's usually what you want when shooting macro. Having said that, I did use a 60mm behind an Ikelite dome for a long time with great results, it is not ideal but it works.

  4. just be careful not to scratch the dome!!
