Underwater babys

  1. First time that i have try to shoot underwater babys. Not so easy as i was thinking.. they are hard to control over water and underwater imposible...

This was the same time that i have test my d200 underwater.

I am not really happy with the lighting.. i use one subtronic strobe but i still not get wich will be the best arm setup to light more even the babys..

Anyway her some shoots. Any advice is welcome

  2. They look a little harsh to me, have you tried using reflectors to soften images underwater?

  3. hhaaaa.. i tried multiple friends and relatives to let me do that.. none of them would let me, afraid their kids would drown...

Yes, i agree with loftus, lighting a little harsh. how about two strobes and softer (diffused) lighting?

  4. The real issue is composition and I think a more comfortable model or many many shots getting lucky would do it but a baby will only be in the water so long. They are very crisp looks like the eyes were selected and saturated. The pale skin makes it tough but the exposure is ok. I kinda like the last one the best even with the terrified look. The second would have been great if he looked at you. Assumming you had such limited time they are fine. Nothing like your model shots which are so good. What do you think of your D200?

  5. softer (diffused) lighting??? How i can make it?? Is there enay way to arhive it with one subtronic gamma plus?

The tiome i have to take a photo off a baby is about 1 second..

The skin is the mosst hard think for me to archive a great skin color and still have the sourounding in blue... maybe i will use next time a magic filter?

  6. Have you ever tried using some type of reflector, maybe painted board, underwater?

  7. reflector, maybe painted board??? good idea.. also as we do in studio?

Any more concret , i really dont get it 100% :-)

  8. I had another thought while drinking my morning coffee. Could you have someone above water hold a simple slave activated flash above and behind the subject.

Clearly you will need some help, but having one or two assistants holding the boards positioned as in a studio is what my thought was.

Definitely sounds like hard work. I have some neat underwater pics of kids as babies (10+ years ago), but they were taken with sunlight, so maybe having flash or flashes out of the water may help.

  9. Yes i can try with my sb 800 strobe... i have a fantasea housing for this.. but the color temperature will be a issue...

The best way i think is to get a second subtronic and with this a even light..

A have a ginat Lasolite reflector for studio work but i a worried to put him under water

  10. Good luck Lambis. I'd lend you my Subtronics if you weren't so far away.

Sounds like you'll have to practice by throwing some dolls in the water first. :D
