Another one to consider. It does not mention HSM so probably does not have it. May be slow in focusing compared with the Canon 60mm.

Lack of HSM is sad. But it looks like unlike the 60mm, this one will work on the 5D.
Hi Herb, thanks for posting this find.
If the focus is anything as fast as the 50mm, it's probably not too bad. I was satisfied with the 50mm on a cropped camera, but was looking for something a little longer to complement the 100mm for shooting with the 5D. This looks like a lens I want to get.
Cheers
James
I think that this lens also has a nice role on cropped sensor cameras offering a similar field of view to 105mm on film/full frame sensor cameras.
Thanks for pointing it out, Herb.

60mm EFS +Extension Tube 12 MkII = focus from greater than 1:1 to ~40cm. Works very well on 1DS, so should be great on a 5D - chroma isn't bad, though different to the 100mm macro and can be easily minimised in Raw conversion. I've now used this set up a lot and its very, very useful. I'd class it as a crab to sea-slug lens. And the focus is very quick indeed.
I've posted this before, but for new readers.....
Great find, Herb! I just ordered one! I've used my Sigma 50 macro extensively (on full frame 1DsMkII), not just for macro, but for shooting fish and for EVERYTHING on night dives (because it focuses so well in low light situations - far better than the Canon 100mm does!). On dives where I ask the dive guides, "Macro or WA?" and they say, "Could be either one...," I often choose the 50 because I can shoot schools of fish, corals, individual fish and/or limited (i.e., not too tiny) macro subjects.
Like James, I've been looking for something with a little more reach...I was hoping Canon would come out with something (60-70mm), but since they haven't, and because I've been so happy with my Sigma 50, I'm definitely willing to give this baby a try!
I was also thinking about one of these for similar reasons expressed above. Knowing that the 50mm extends somewhat from its stated length when used at 1:1, I asked SigmaUK whether the 70mm similarly extends from its stated length of 95mm. They have just replied to say at 1:1 its extended length is 160mm. So much for their very misleading publicity! That is such a massive increase (70%ish)I can hardly believe it but it puts it out of the frame for me if it is correct. Anybody considering it would be well advised to check first that their ports can accomodate it.
