Wrasse???

  1. I've been breaking my head on this one. Not the greatest picture but I hope someone can tell me what it is. There appear to be yellowhead wrasse-like lines behind the eye but I've never seen one this pale. Found at about 30 ft off the north shore of Cuba, halfway between Varadero and Havana.

  2. According to Humann & Deloach "Reef Fish Identification" 3rd edition, on page 218, this is a color variation of an Intermediate or Young Terminal Phase Yellowhead Wrasse, Halichoeres garnoti. Also, kind of close to a Princess Parrotfish, but the lines behind the eyes make me think it is closer to the Yellowhead.

  3. Yes, as Pat said, your picture is of an immature YellowHead Wrasse. Halichoeres garnoti

  4. Thanks Pat & William!
