  1. Hi all,

I'm off to do some diving in the South China seas around the 14th of September and I will be staying in Singapore for Two nights and One whole day. Is there anywhere worth visiting in such a short time ??? I will be staying at the Holiday inn (Atrium).

Any idea's will be a bonus...

  2. post-5742-1153044215_thumb.jpgfor a good evening meal - head out of town in a taxi to the sea food centre. The speciality dish is spicy chili crab. They have a very good selection of fresh sea food to offer, and at very reasonable prices. The main thing to do during the day in Singapore is shopping. Lots of big shopping centres that you can lost in.

Then of course you have to go to Raffles for a Singapore sling or 2 or 3,4

  3. aside from shopping and eating, the two national passtimes in singapore, you might want to try the night safari, though i never visited it myself, when i was living there i used to recommend it to visitors and they were usually very happy with it.

    enjoy....

    When in Singapore------I eat!

This may sound strange, but for visitors some of the finest food for reasonable prices in Singapore is found in some of the better hotels. In particular there is a 4 kitchen resturant in the Grand Hyatt Singapore (just a block off Orchard) that serves Singaporean, Malay, Chinese and Indian food as well as some fusion dishes of the same. It is excellent and is available buffet style so you can pick, choose and taste so many different cuisines.

Almost any of the noodle cafes in Chinatown will give you an opportunity for a tasty treat. As much as I enjoy Indian food I do not find any of the restaurants/cafes/snack bars in Little Indian enticing. I think Little India is the dirtiest of the popular ethnic areas in Singapore (as much as i dislike having to say that).

As far as shopping goes, much of what is found in Singapore shopping areas is available in most countries, but it is quite nice to do a bit of shopping around in Chinatown, Arab Street or Little India. Each has great junk shops as well as fine specialties.

Having said that, Orchard Road is a shopping area extrordinaire in my experience. I find it quite unbelievable in comparison to anything I have seen before. I avoid it, but if traveling with someone who enjoys shopping, you won't go wrong with that area.

  5. Well, in addition to the food and shopping...my favorite is actually some of the outdoor stuff. I love puting on some running shorts and going to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and trail running for a bit. You'll get to see some beautiful rainforest areas and monkeys, etc. It's like a tropical central park. You'll also get about as sweaty as you'll ever get! I love it - one trail is up a really steep hill with mud steps carved in. Love it.

Have fun and (now that I'm living here) let me know if you have questions!

  6. Cheers all,

Thats alot to fit into one day.. But seeing how I got drunk (twice) ate four meals from different places, fell a sleep snoring for 2 hours and chatted up two Californion cheerleaders in 'Houston airport' I think I'll give it a go..

    Thanks again

  8. I highly recommend the night zoo, same as the night safari. It was great, we really enjoyed ourselves so if you get the time or decide not to drink the evening away that is something to do you will enjoy.

It is amazing how close you get to animals at night when they can't see you and you can see them. It is mostly on a tram
