Thanks Arnon. I looked all over B&H and CameraWorld and Nikon's website with no luck. Then you give me a response in 10 minutes...excellent.
Thanks again.
Joe
The D200 is quite heavy with the vertical grip. When I tried one it was considerably heavier than the D2X.
Alex
Last time I checked, it was going for around $170 us. It can actually accomodate 2 EN-EL3 battries.......and Alex is right, it's a bit heavy!
Joe:
It is there on the D200 page at B&H, under accessories, (scroll down) but it apparently is OOS.

I use one.. its true what alex say its heavy but i like it a lot
You get a way better control av vertical and more freedom with batterys...
Are the batteries that weak? I have a D70 with two of the original batts, thought they had been improved since as their performance is not too hot. Had sudden death syndrome a couple times with them when I first got it so always keep the second as a charged spare. Have not found this need with either the D2H or D2X and their battery has been further improved with the intro of the xs!! My guesstimate is that one can shoot about 12 GB worth of pix with a D2X on a charge with the orginal model battery!! Enough for a couple days of shooting so it stayed in the housing that long on recent trips. Not so with the D200???
Tom
Tom, the battery performance in RAW mode with the D200 is no where near as good as the D70 is with the same battery. I find I can shoot around between 600-1000 pics before I need a recharge with the D200 without vertical grip (ie. standard config). If I use the internal flash (topside) to trigger other flashes or for fill, then this number goes down. The rear display also munches batteries and the more "chimping" you do the more the battery drains. So in short, there are a number of variables, but I find the battery performance significantly poorer than the D70s. I can't speak for the D2X.
[Edited for clarity]
Should have mentioned that the D200 battery performance in jpeg is significantly better than in RAW mode, but who shoots jpeg??
That is very interesting that JPEG is better than RAW. What's the use of raw on the D200 then?
BTW, I have a vertical grip on my D100 and it is heavy, but I love the flexibility of vertical and horiz.

I think that statement is rather poorly worded...
Can we assume you mean that battery performance is better in jpeg? Possibly you also meant the the camera responds a bit more quickly in jpeg mode?
Surely you don't mean that the image quality is superior in jpeg??? Simply put, it can't be.
Sorry Richard - I was talking about battery performance. Image quality in RAW is far superior and I don't notice any difference in responsiveness in jpeg mode. Thanks for the pick up.
my pleasure! ;-)
call it an Aussie to English translation... like we Americans speak "English"!! ![]()
