Slave strobe needed for Casio Z1000

  1. Just returned from a trip where one of the divers used a housed Casio Z600 with outstanding results! It was determined that and outboard higher powered slave strobe was needed due to the total inadequacy of the onboard strobe.

The Casio cameras all emit a pre-flash which schweckles up (confuses) most slave strobes. When the lens opens, the strobe has already fired based on the preflash and hence, no auxilary illumination.

Does anyone out there know if the Ikelite DS-125 with the slave sensor will solve the problem? It's a pricey solution but if it works....

Thanks to all for your input on this board!

  2. There are several digital strobes that handle the preflash. Inon's are well respected as are the Ikelites. Both are higher end digital strobes that would grow with your needs if you ever upgraded to a DSLR. The Ikelite DS-51 would also cover your camera nicely at a much lower price. Here's a nice site for you to check out some specifics.

  3. Good recomendation!

I would also look at the new Inon Z240, as it handles an optical pre-flash setup as well as hard wired connections for the future.

Very bright and small. Not sure if it has been added to the DDN strobe guide yet.

  4. OUr tech friend Brett from Ikelite tells me the standard slave won't work in this Casio applicaiton BUT their manual controller will.

    Looks like problem is solved.

    Thanks all!
