sigma 14mm 2.8

  1. i am considering this lens to add to my collection mainly because it fits into the ikelite dome port 5503.50 that houses my nikkor 60mm and tokina 12-24mm, my question:

is it worth it? necessary? anyone have experience with this lens?

it has an angle view of 114.2 , the tokina 12-24 is 99 to 61 degrees. is it worth to have the extra angle view?

  2. In my opinion it’s mainly about what you like to shot and what your needs more then the specifics port you already have.

I personally will look for something wider since its will give me much more options, so to me its looks better to have one of the fish-eye lens like the Sigma 15 mm or the Nikon 10.5 (my favorite :guiness: )

  3. That lens costs 900$ (Bh). For that price I would sure get a nikkor 10.5mm (570$) and a sigma 17-70 (390$) for a total of 960$. With your 12-24 and 60 you would end up with a very complete set of lenses...

  4. Hmm - I'd check your figures. The 14mm may span an angle of view of 114.2 degrees on a full frame camera, but I don't see how it can be wider than the 12-24 at the 12mm end. That doesn't make sense.

  5. I think 114.2 is for 35mm format...

  6. I'd seriously look at the 8" dome too. I've got the Canon 10-22mm in the smaller dome and with smaller apertures than f/10 I get blurry edges. I'm about to order the 8" dome as this apparently removes the problem.

  7. as mentioned above - the 14mm is not wider than the 12-24 when used on a DX format camera.

On a DX format camera, it's equivalent to using approx a 21mm lens on a full frame (approx 90 degrees coverage).

Personally I think the 14 is a great lens on a full frame or film camera, but it's an expensive bit of glass to use on a DX format camera given the much more limited angle of view - unless you specifically have a need for this angle of coverage

I second the suggestions above to look at the fisheyes instead if you want extra angle of view (the 15mm will give you around 120 degrees coverage (on a DX camera), the 10.5 around 180
