at the end of august / half september i am traveling from calgary to vancouver. dring 3 weeks i can enjoy canada. Although diving is not the main item, i am very tempted to at least take the kit, discovery has done great by generating an interest in hornby islands's six gill sharks.
does anyone have any travel tips - diving or no diving for this area.
Gerard
Rand and I will be diving with a group of photographers, including Ryan Canon from Ryan Canon's Reef Photo in Port Hardy British Columbia. It is the northern portion of Vancouver island.
The trip is 5 days of diving.
You are welcome to join us. The diving is world class and if we are lucky we should see some Humpbacks, Orca and Pacific Whitesided Dolphins also.
6 Gills are generally summer months so most likely not an option late August. If you only want a day of diving look up Pacific Pro Dive in Courtney/Comox or Sundown Diving in Nanaimo. Both on Vancouver Island.
Cheers
Todd
Hi Gerard,
Having dived the northern reaches of British Columbia numerous times over the past twent years I can say that Port Hardy's Browning Pass region offers some of the finest cold water diving on the planet.
The six gill shark season runs from approx June to September. I saw one in Nov,mber in Saanich Inlet. For six gill sharks check out http://www.hornbyislanddiving.com
Good luck
Jett
thanks for the info (and for the invitation). I think it will be loose days of diving for us, i dont think i will be joining your trip. (although combined diving/whale whatching sounds great)
The idea is to see as much of western canada as possible, without driving 24-7. I think vancouver island will be a major part of our trip anyway, so i'm sure we'll try some of the diving operators.
