Macro to Wide

  1. I thought I would start a new thread as I had a few pics to show.

Dan that Expodisk looks like what we need but to have flip macro abilty for me is more important than WB at this point in time. Hopefully the company will make some thins one's so we can get them into our housings and still have a second arm. I'm sure we can make very thin second arms for the Phenom and L&M's new Wide Angle. Having the CC filter on the end of the camera all the time with a Flip Macro and Expodisk would keep me happy.

Here are a few grabs taken with the 94 degree lens on the Phenom and the + 2 Hoya diopter on the flip arm for the macro stuff. To be able to go from one to the other on the same dive is important.

  2. Hey Wags, I think I asked you before, but can the Hoya's fit straight away onto the flip arms with no adjustment?

    Thanks

    Bryce

  3. Yes, you have to take the macro glass out of the ring that it comes in and then it will go straight on the flip arm. I have only one flip arm now and the CC filter is always on the end of the camera. You put the CC filter in the ring the macro came out of and then you can push the ring into the end of the camera. Put some soft tape around the ring to give it a snug fit in there.

  4. push it in... ??

    Isn't it a threaded ring?

  5. Hey Wags - I just put my cc filter in a ring that I got from Amphibico. It was the ring they mounted with the original +2 diopter - fits perfectly right on the inside with nothing sticking out and no tape needed.

    Just an FYI.

  6. Hey? You must have a different one to me, show us a pic?

Mike the Hoya 67mm ring is a iny bit smaller so it has to be pused in the end of the camera.

  7. Bryce... the original +2? that will vignette your wide stuff....

  8. Wags, I'll post a pic when I get home.

Mike, I'm not talking about using that diopter - just the ring to hold the cc filter up to the lens.

Originally, for me at least, my setup was: the first port (with vignetting), the +2 diopter screwed into the camera with the cc filter and nd filter on the arms.

The ring for that original diopter works perfectly to hold other 67mm filters.

  9. Wags, I can see what you mean about stuff looking far away with a wide lens, and that's not even a UWA. Do you ever use lights for close-up stuff in the daytime like under ledges, white balanced with the UR-Pro in place? How does the footage look?

  10. Byrce I have the original and the new one and there is no way my URpro fiter will fit in any of them, so we await your pic.

I have also made a simple kind of Expodisk  Hey I grew up on a farm...

Anyhow on testing it it looks like when the camera cannot WB in dark areas I flip it up and it lets it WB, kind of like diffuses the light over more of the lens area. More soon but still messing around with it. It also allows me to keep the macro on the flip arm and that's with the new 94 degree modified port on as well  .....so far it's cost me ZERO to make...more soon.

Nick, yes I would not want a lens any wider then 100 degree as you then have to get real close to stuff or else it looks too far away. When I tried out the Gates's 120 wide, I think for everyday use it's to wide. Okay if you are shooting Whales or Big animals.

If you have bright lights it's still okay for macro with the URPOR filter still but yes it drops the light strength allot. Try to plan my dives. I have 45 watts of HIDs now so it should help.

  11. Wags, my bad. The ring doesnt' hold the 67mm cc filter, it holds the 52mm cc filter - Sorry for the mixup - here's some pics of how it looks.

  12. Here they are:

  13. yes Bryce, thats the one i mean....

If you download a test clip onto your computer in HD mode you will find it vignettes unless you are zoomed in quite a bit....

It doesn't show up on the camera itself....

    Best left for macro....

  14. Hey Mike - I actually haven't edited any of this footage yet, just tested it out on my HD tv screen -

After you said that, I imported it into the computer and saw small shadowing in the upper corners, as you said. Interestingly enough, it didn't show those corners at all on my tv screen??? In the past the vignetting for me has been the same in FCP as it has been on my tv?

AHHHHHH! I'm so over dark corners!

    Bryce

  15. dark corners add nice mood...

    :D
