Best way to batch-resize photos???

10 posts
  1. Will be taking hundreds of photos at an upcoming rowing event. Many of my teammates will want copies. I plan on posting them on a page on my website. I will be shooting JPEG Fine. Is there a way in Photoshop CS2 to batch resize all these photos for the web, say 72 DPI with max width of 700pixels???

Any step by step help would be appreciated...

  2. Pretty easy actually. YOu need to have all the photos in one folder.

What you can do is creat an action. Open one of the photos from your folder. Go to your action window and hit the create new action icon. Then hit record.

You can then go to the photo and image->resize and enter 72dpi, i think you will probably have both vert and horiz photos? instead of puttin in 700 on one side what you want to do is resize via percent on both the vert and horiz. that way you won't get funny sized photos.. then hit enter..

You can then hit Save As and put in a seperate folder and then close. Now hit stop record on the action menu....

NOw, go to File -> Automate -> Batch. simply choose your new action from the drop down menu and enter the source folder and destination folder and hit go! Then go have a beer while you wait..

  3. If downsizing, it can also be worth setting resizing option to Bicubic Sharper in the Preferences dialogue...

  4. Another simpler method is to use Porta to do the job. Resizes the photos automatically, adds a watermark if you want, and creates HTML and Flash galleries in seconds!

  5. Are you on a Windows box? If so, try Breezebrowser.

I use it for batch resizing often. The other day I had to resize 10,000 images into 3 different sizes, and it was perfect for the job. It can crop, resize to bounding box, copyright, sharpen, color convert, etc. etc.

Great tool. Even my Mac friends really want to use it. (some of them do, through Parallels Workstation).

  6. is it a download? that sounds like a good tool...

the current download i have been downloading all day to patch my Pinnacle.... i get 1.79kb/sec

you people and your fast internet suck!!!!!

  7. Thanks all I will try it in CS2 and maybe give Breezebrowser a shot. I am sure I will have more questions.

  8. I use the image procesor in CS11, and then get it to run whatever action is required also. Works for me.

  9. Thanks all, after a couple of attempts got it to work in CS2.

  10. There is a simple way of resizing when both vertical and horizontal image are in the same batch.

just go to file>automate>fit image and then enter the value of the max dimension you want.

    Best regards,
