Macro from The Java Sea

  1. These pictures are taken on different dive sites around the Karimunjava Marin Park located in the middle of the Java Sea. I currently work there as a Manager/Dive Instructor on Kura Kura Resort. The pictures are taken with a D200 in a ikelite uv-hus, 60mm Nikon, 105mm Sigma and a single Subtronic Gamma strobe.

I hope you like them and all comments and critics are more then welcome. God and bad...

  2. Very very nice Peter. Excellent compositions and particularly good work with just a single strobe.

The pearl and feather stars are superb and the wrasse shot is also fantastic! I like the nudis too - characterful.

  3. nice stuff peter...

somewhere near Java? between java and oz or?

    gotta map?

  4. Very nice, Peter.

I've been to Kura-Kura twice, back in 2000-01 or so when I was living in Jakarta. A group of us used to take the train from Jakarta and overnight in Semarang and in the morning take the the resort's fast speedboats to the resort. The resort was new, in a beautiful, ideallic setting, consisting of lovely teak cottages with AC and a very peaceful environment.

As I was a relatively new diver then and not yet into UW photography, I can't comment much on the diving other than we were the only divers around! What's it like there now? I'd love to see more photos from there! You may see me back!

    Mike,

The Karimunjawa islands are in the Java Sea just off the north coast of central Java. Check out the map on Kura Kura's website:

    Kura Kura-getting there

    Cheers.

    Michael.

  5. All very nice.

  6. Pedda ,

Great collection images. I really like the feather star. Well done.

  7. love the colors, and that last shot is a real winner

  8. Great pictures! Congratulations Peter :guiness:

  9. Karimunjava Marine Park is located in between Java and Borneo. The resort island itself takes around 25-30min to walk around and is a real paradise.

We are the only ones diving in the Karimunjava Marine Park so I can guarantee that you'll not meet any other divers under the water except the ones that are on the dive boat with you. We have 6 dive boats but so far during my three months on the island we have never had more than eight divers at the same time.

We have steady 28-30 degrees in the water all year around. The visibility various between 5 to 20 meter so there is no Red Sea :-( It's a lot of particles in the water and the water is more green/blue/gray than Red Sea blue so I prefer macro and fast shutter speed for a black background in my pictures that I take here.

Sorry if this sound like advertising but it is a true paradise.

    Regards

    Peter
