  2. Honestly... I think you made it black and white as the sunburst you were trying for was way to bright and it didn't look very good, so you turned it black and white to see if it looks better, fortunately it probably does look better but that sunburst in the top left really does hurt that image, sorry mate but it's no good me just saying "oh nice" :) next time keep the sun in mind and maybe try a few sunbursts and then move the camera a little so you don't get the sun, then you have the choice. I've been concentrating on lighting a lot these days. Before you take the shot think about the lighting as well as the composure, hope this helps. :(

  3. I suggest you try my recent favorite trick. When you have a very wide dynamic range, and you have been shooting RAW you can take advantage of it by making two RAW conversions. Underexpose one to bring back the blown out areas, and expose the other for the shadows. Then blend the two together with masks. Also I suggest you try the channel mixer to get more contrast during the color->BW conversion. Just my $0.02 worth.

  4. Agreeing with the others above you could crop out the blown out surface and also play with the shadow highlight in Photoshop CS to try and help it a little. You might try a close focus wide angle next time getting low on the wreck and shooting up making it look more imposing. maybe getting the bow in a diagnal line toward the surface. Also check your lcd after the shot, bracketing is a good idea like Dr. Steve said, although tougher underwater without a tripod, keep it steady and adjust the f stop quickly. You can also meter for the upper center of the wreck avoiding the dark areas and very bright areas.
