Sigma 28-70mm F2.8

  1. Hi,

I just bought a Sigma 28-70 2.8D that I will be using with my Nikon D200 and Subal housing. I was told that you can use this lens with a flat port or with a dome port. If I use it with a flat port , I will loose 25% of the angle but it will work fine for fish portraits.

Does anyone use this lens with the different ports? does it work better with the dome port or with the flat port ? I am going to Bali next month and I don't have any experience with this specific lens.

    Thanks for your help.

  2. I use this lens a lot and always use it behind a flat port. I have never felt the need to shoot it behind a dome.

There is no reason why it wouldn't work behind a dome but it would need a dioptre (and set the dome positioning via the port extention ring at the 28mm end).

Here are a few of example shots taken with the setup (in Bali or of species you will see in Bali). I didn't actually take the lens on my recent trip to Bali because of the current baggage restrictions from the UK.

  4. Alex got me on that lens and it's great, flat port, sharp and quick.

  5. Nice shots Alex. Are those @ 70mm?

  6. Some are some are probably at 28mm. That's the thing with zooms you tend to use them at one end or the other!

  7. How do you like the Sigma 28-70mm topside?

I'll be getting a dedicated wide angle lense for u/w,

and am looking to compliment it topside. Thanks
