New Sony HD - HDD Camcorder - HDR-SR1

  1. Here's a link to Sony's newest HDD Camcorder - the HDR-SR1. It's 1080HD camcorder with 30GB HDD storage. Should be on sale the end of October.

Dolby Digital 5.1 sound and HDMI output. It's even got a one-touch White Balance function. But it seems that they left off the Lanc port and the Firewire port in favor of USB 2.0 - What were they thinking??

  2. Note:

These HDD HD cams record with AVC (aka H264 or MP4 derivative)... which is not the same as HDV, which has higher bandwidth and chroma and less compression.

Also a HDD media means you can't do anything once it's full. So it's great for 1 boat dive then you have to download whatever you have to a computer or other harddrive. Try d/l 20gb on USB2 within a SI.

I've tried the Super Slo mo function (3 secs x .25 speed) and it's a nice feature. But all controls on the LCD again which means limited uw use. even with access to the LCD.

Does this have an LANC jack? Sounds like even if it did it would still mean limited access.
