Sea&Sea announces new dome port

  1. After sometime producing not so attractive housings (big, heavy), Sea&Sea is coming back to the market strongly by producing nice and compact housings for the Nikons D200 and D50 and the Canon 5D. Their latest new product is a glass dome port:

Their previous fisheye dome port was made of acrylic. These are the advantages of this new port (according to Sea&Sea):

    * Greatly reduces peripheral aberration (distortion) so images are clear from corner to corner.

    * Efficient light transmission sharpens images.

    * Greatly reduces flare when shooting into light.

    * Made of glass so it sheds water droplets, excellent for clear over/under shots (half above water, half below).

    * Aged deterioration more resistant than an acrylic dome port.

In addition, a Sea&Sea housing for the D80 is in the works:

  2. This glass dome was rumoured in a previous post where it was said to be exactltly the same dome as sold under the Athena name for Sea & Sea housings.

  3. Apparently Athena will stop selling the dome when Sea and Sea start selling it (it's the same dome). I also heard that the price would of course go up!

Then I'm glad I got the Athena dome while it's still available...

  6. This is the Athena dome port that we've been selling quite successfully for over a year, rebadged w/ Sea & Sea labeling and a less substantial lens shade. As stated above, the Athena OPD-170V for NX housings is no longer available.
