Ikelite 8" Domes- Point of reference

  1. I sent my 8" Ike dome in for the 200' refitting. While on the phone with them, the tech mentioned they had "shipped about 800 of the things since it came out in April."

    I find that to be a lot more than I would have imagined. That being said, I would imagine they sold a housing for 700 of those domes....

    Are there that many UW SLR photographers out there? If so, seems like most of them would be shooting Ikelite products and how do the many other housing manufacturers survive? I know there are many shooting "prosumer" cameras but this number surprises me.

    Does anyone out there have any concrete info on the size of this marketplace?

    PS- The shrouds and the dome covers for the 8" Ike dome should be in by the end of the month. :P

  2. As further proof of Ikelite's excellent service, I sent mine in over Labor Day and had it returned in less than a week!!!
