  1. I have just seen a set up using two Nikon SB80D strobes in Fantasea housings with aD200/housing. They are cheap to buy thanks to Nikon's volume sales and, if and when they go wrong you can take them to your local Nikon dealer.

It suddenly gives me pause for thought. I am going to get myself a pair. Maybe that is why Zena is selling her Subtronics!

Has anyone experience of this set-up. It promises complete iTTL too!

  2. I have done the same, even though I have Subtronics - first as backup and then possibly for general use for macro. I am not clear yet whether it works TTL with two flashes; does one set one up as a slave etc.

Sven recently posted some pics on Image Improvement as Rascasse using 1 SB800 with a D200and it seemed to work well.

  3. One flash has to be "wirelessly" connected to the other I believe. This can be accomplished by running a fiber optic cable from one flash to the sensor on the other.

Mark Furth was able to get this to work.

    Cheers

  4. I took at least 10.000 images with my SB800 in the last year. Results are great and the setup is reasonable cheap. You can only use one strobe in TTL. My second strobe (an SB80DX) was connected manually (two wires).

You can always buy three strobes and two housings. That way you have a very affordable spare.

I now switched to the new Seacam Digital TTL strobes. But I am keeping my SB800 housing because I want to have FP synchronisation. FP synchro is something I have not seen on any amphibious strobe yet.
