I have a diver with me using the Canon 5D, Subal housing, 8 inch dome port, 17-40mm lens and 2 Inon (what ever the newest ones are called) each time he takes a pic the image on the LCD screen shows the backgounds to have a greenish look about it. I can take a wide image shot with my D2X and have nice rich blue background, but with his 5D no matter what he does he cannot? I tried with it to and the LCD always shows this green'ish look for a background but later when you view them on the computer they are a little better but not much, has anyone else seen or had this before?

Hi Patrick,
My wife and I used that exact same setup last week, thanks to a rental unit from Reef Photo and Video.
Firstly, make sure that the strobe light isn't hitting the dome. Sarah had that on the first dive and it ruined the shots w/ flare. That may account for some or all of your friend's problems.
Otherwise, all I can think of is to check his/her white balance setting. It may be on tungsten or something...put it back on Auto.
Cheers
James

Check the picture style also. I leave mine on standard, some of the other ones can produce strange results.
If he shot in raw open them in Canon's DPP raw converter and adjust the WB and Picture Style setting.

I thought picture style didn't matter if you shot RAW, except to set defaults. (Mine's on Standard.)

That may depend on your raw converter. The raw files are tagged with the picture style setting and Canon DPP will use that in the raw conversion unless you change it before converting.

That's about my settings also with good results, RAW with a corresponding auto white balance JPEG, Standard Picture Style setting.

What strobes are you using. Cool strobes mean that you would need a warm WB setting to get the same foreground colours as Patrick's Ikes. This would act to muddy up the blue water slight - not giving as good a blue.

After 10 days of diving with them I can say this, it's the LCD that makes it look greener than it is. When viewed on my computer the green'ish look is much bluer. The LCD show a green'ish look all the time, do any other 5D users have this? I saw what Alex wrote on the 5 who were diving with him, strange that the LCD does this, I had a 20D and it was great.

here is the relevant quote of mine from the other thread:
We also have differences between cameras. Yesterday on my boat we had 4 Canon 5Ds, a variety of Nikons (D100, D70, D200, D2X) and a Fuji S2. The Nikons all produced blue water (as it was underwater yesterday), while the S2 was slightly greener than reality and the 5Ds were all very green - and nothing like it really was. These were all taken of the same subjects on the same dive. Patrick mentionned something similar a couple of days ago.The differences were very pronounced on the LCD screens, but when I was looking at the images in the evening - when they had been WB corrected in Photoshop - the 5D blues generally were blue again.

I still have my photos from my last dives in Bali on the card in the camera and I just checked them. The water looks blue to me. I'm looking at the LCD and the same photo unadjusted on my monitor using DPP. The one on the monitor looks like it a darker, deeper blue, but the photo on the LCD still look blue to me. I have the picture style set to standard and WB on auto.

I have never seen this problem with my 5D. I have used it on one trip to a blue water destination and the water colour was accurate on the LCD. Shot in RAW with Picture Style at Standard.

It was there last day yesterday or I would have found a way of showing you what I mean, I think I'll tell him to send it off to get looked at. Thanks all.

Looks like a WB problem. I experienced it on my first take-5D-underwater attempt few days ago. I used Ikelite DS-125 single strobe. If the WB is set to flash, the color temperature is 6250 K ws. 5500 K on the Inon strobe or 4800 K on the Ikelite strobe. Auto white balance can take you up to 7300 K and produce erratic results. Set WB to manual (K) and adjust it to 4500 K for Ikelite (300 K less then nominal) or somewhere around 5200 K for Inon. I shoot in green waters and noticed that sometimes have to go bellow 3900 K to produce acceptable results. I used it on couple of dives only so I might change my views.
LCD screen is brighter than monitor so it just might be more obvious.

No it's not that, they turn out okay on the computer, it's when you view them on the camera LCD that they look green'ish.
