Canon S40 + Canon housing

  1. Hi,

does anybody have experince with underwater use of Canon S40 + Canon housing (WP-DC300)? Did anybody use it deeper that 30meters?

  2. Only once.

  3. Sorry, that was a joke. I don't have one of these cameras or housings. With a lot of experience with different camera housings over the years I can say that you could probably gamble on twice the rated depth. However your best bet is a housing made by a housing maker with long experience. I examined the housing made by olympus for their 4040 and can say that compared to the Ikelite housing made for the same camera it gave me no confidence that it would reliably stand years of use and abuse that underwater camera housings undergo. Most of these housings sold by the cameras manufactures appear to be best used on easy shallow dives in easy tropical dive locations. (i.e. don't take them off the Big Sur coast like I like to do)

  4. Well I'm using the Canon UW/housing.

Here is the website for the link,

But I didn't go beyond 30m. Right now I'm debating on getting a Strobe or Torch Light. Any suggestion?

  5. Went beyond the rated limit and it survived. Most of these things can be pushed a little bit more, up to you if you want to try your luck. No cracks or leaks. So my S40 survived.

I will admit 100 feet depth limit is not exactly enough. Then again the casing is so simple and small.
