Flower Gardens w/ the 5D

  1. Last weekend I led a digital photo workshop for HUPS where we did a 2 day trip to the Flower Garden Banks. We had a lot of fun and pretty good diving (weather was dark). We had a Subal 5D setup on hand thanks to Reef Photo and Video and Sarah used that w/ Ike DS125's while I used my Seacam 5D w/ Ike DS200's. I would have liked some macro strobes, but my DS51's didn't arrive in time.

In any case, it was a really great experience for us (both Sarah and I, and the HUPS club).

Here are a few of my favorite photos. Macro w/ the Sigma 150mm and +1 diopter:

We really only got to do one WA dive because it was so dark, so I used the FF Fisheye for my second time ever. It was a lot of fun but I did get a few photos of my fins and my strobes...:-)

Both cameras and housings performed fabulously.

    Cheers

  2. Nices shots James. I love the fisheye also, and yes it does take getting used to. I have shots of my fins and my strobes.

  3. Love those first three fish shots, they're great!

    Richard.

  4. Nice ones. I like the first one - is that a dartfish?

  5. Hi Guys,

Thanks for the comments. The first fish is a Jawfish (yellowhead I think). The second is a scrawled cowfish, and the third is a speckled hawkfish.

    Cheers

  6. Great stuff James!

I like the wide angle too. You should use it more!

  7. James,

The flower gardens are on my todo list. What time of year is the best time to go?

  8. Very, very nice.

  9. Thanks again guys.

Gary - the best time to go is August or September. It's usually flat then, and if a hurricane is coming, you get plenty of warning to reschedule your trip.

    Cheers

  10. James,

Always fun to see images from one of my fav places to dive!!

Your images are beautiful and you always post such informative and helpful data.

    Thanks!

    Carol

PS, I really like the shot of your honeycomb cowfish...... ;);)

  11. Whatever - I am not a "common name" guy either. lol

Thanks for the Kudos Carol. Now if I can just get Sarah to post her photos too.

    Cheers
