I've seen a lot of posts about HDV cameras but nothing on the older/cheaper DV's
As a beginner to underwater videography, I was wondering if anyone has used a Cannon GL2 and how they do underwater? As a newcomer, I dont want to go all out and buy a HDV as i've only been shooting on land for about two years. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

The GL2 is a great camera. It's a little noisier than the PD170/VX2k camera in low light but the color and resolution is better imho. However, if you're going to buy a new one, I'd go for a HDcamera (not necessarily HDV, the new AVCHD are very decent too). You just get so much better resolution with HD.
I think only Gates and Sealux (maybe) have a housing for it.
If you are going to buy new, then you might as well go for a HDV camera. You can shoot in HDV and still edit in normal DV untill you are ready to edit in HDV. The HDV camera's don't cost much more than normal DV camera's.
Everyone makes housings for Sony's so that might be the best brand to stick with unless you find a second hand DV unit somewhere.
