Guadalupe with D80 and D2X

  1. Hello Shark fans -

My wife and I just got back from Guadalupe aboard the Solmar with Great White adventures... The usual suspects were lurking.. We tried a Nikon D80 in Nexus D70 housing with the 18-70 DX kit lens.. This camera is going to be phenomenal when properly housed.. The larger viewfinder, LCD and Auto ISO are great new features.

  2. Amazing pics; the D80 really seems to produce. Comforting to know that we have reached a point where the reasonably priced cameras can produce stuff that's difficult to distinguish from the high end stuff for most purposes. I particularly like the close-up - scary detail.

  3. Fantastic shots !! I wanna go there !!

  4. Great stuff. What week were you there? I was there 9/18-9/22 and had a blast.

  5. Impressive, hope to get there some day.

  6. Thanks everyone. This is a really fun, easy trip.. Crew on Solmar is top notch. Keri and I will definately be doing Guadalupe again!

  7. Nice shots - I like the one with the shark on the right side swimming at you with the rays (and little fish underneath) -

  9. Hello,

I'm headed to Guadalupe this week and was wondering if you used the 18-70DX kit lens. I wasn't planning on using mine but thought your pictures looked great.

    I was going to bring a 18-35mm and a 12-24DX. Any thoughts?

    Thanks,

    John

  10. I had good luck last month with the 12-24mm, but the majority of the shots were at the 24mm end. If I do it again I'll probably try my 17-55 for a little more flexibility.

  11. Hi John -

My wife used the 18-70dx w/diopter and I was using the 17-55DX.. I think most of our photos were in the 22mm+ end....so, like Jim (jcclink) mentioned... the 12-24 would be ok but the sharks sometimes tend to stay further away from cages...a lens with a little more "reach" would be desirable..

It was my first time with 17-55dx...its a really, really nice lens...but it should be for the $$. :))

  12. Hey you guys,

Thanks for responding so fast. From the reading I've done (thanks to everyone posting) it seems like the 12-24DX doesn't lend enough reach. I'll probably stick to the 18-35mm for most of the time. It's proved pretty sharp at the 35mm end in the past. I'll probably get a 17-55DX at some point in the future. A little late now - I'm leaving in 2 days! I'm more worried about my queasy stomach at this point. I get car sick when I'm driving.

Thanks again. I'll report back next week when I return.
