Underwater Maternity Shoot

  1. Hi Gang,

I was lucky to be able to shoot w/ professional model Taylor Delfino on Friday. She asked me to shoot some underwater maternity photos for her - along the lines of some of her favorites from the book "The Glow" by Danica Perez. We were both trying to make photos that add the weightless aspect to the normal maternity styles. Poor Taylor was a trooper - she's 6 1/2 months pregnant, so only has lungs the size of avocados but was still able to hold her breath and swim and tread water! As Lambis can attest, it is VERY challenging to make good photos when the model has trouble swimming or isn't comfortable in the water.

We did have some problems w/ clarity in the pool and with the sun angle - so didn't get all of the styles that we wanted, but I'm still very pleased with the results. Here are a few of our favorite photos from the shoot:

    These are my favorites:

And this one has a light background, but I think the mood is still good:

These were shot w/ two Ikelite SS200's on the housing and a supplemental SS400 as an underwater or abovewater slave - on a tripod.

I still haven't been able to get the reflections in the water's surface that I want, but it's good to have something to work on. :-)

    Cheers

    James

I second the sentiment for the second. She looks like she's riding on a magic carpet!

  4. Nice work. My favorites are 1 & 2.

Have you seen the amazing underwater stuff on http://www.howardschatz.com/

Any ideas how he does it?

  5. Thanks guys. Yes, I've seen the work of Howard Schatz - it's great. He has his own saltwater indoor pool studio.

    Cheers
