  1. Article about diving Saba.

Have you been there? Can you recommend what to look for and what to stay away from?

BTW When is the hurricane seasson, and do they reach Saba?

  2. You might want to put a thread on the Digital Diver Board, where there's a couple from the board whom have retired there and have a vacation rental available. Might be a good place for answers. :) They also have a web site.

  3. Just so you know... hurricane season in that region begins June 1 and goes through November 30. Generally, the worst hurricane months are September and October. Storms have been known to form in the earlier and later months, though they are fairly rare in June.

  4. This year Hurricane season has been much quieter than expected, with less than half the predicted number of storms thus far. It appears that El Nino in the Pacific works to our advantage in this respect, so hopefully next year will be relatively quiet as well. I have heard that Saba has good diving but is a small island with not much else to do.

  5. I've been there. It's a bit different than most Caribbean diving. The pinnacles are a treat, but they tend to be on the deep end. Most of our first dives were in the 100-130' range, which meant short dive times.

One of my favorite sites ever is Core Gut.

Stayed at Julianna's. Best of the reasoably priced locations. It was convenient and adequate. Not as nice as the extremely overpriced Queen's Garden or Willards.

Dove with Sea Saba. Lyn, the co-author of the article you linked to, is a wonderful person and pays attention to every detail. Their boats are quite nice. Saba Deep is a also good, but I'd go with Sea Saba.

My Kitchen had the best food for the money.

Hurricanes can reach Saba. One whipped through somewhere around 1999 or 2000. Wiped out the Captains Quarters, a resort right next to Julianna's. I had a good time exploring through the wreckage of the resort.

  6. Thanks everyone,

I contacted all three (that I could find) dive centers on Saba. Lynn from Sea Saba replied almost instantly and was very informative and helpful.

Currently I think the problem is getting a flight on a date that suits us at a reasonable price.

Also.. as I understand it. The divecenters do not have house reefs. That would be great to have (on this particular trip).
