Ike 8" dome shade

13 posts
  1. Just got word from Ikelite that my 8" dome is on the way back. Charge for the Dome Shade and new dome cover was $125.

They are returning my old non-shaded neoprene Ikelite dome cover. Now I can wear it on the place as a beret! :)

  2. I had one on order but Ikelite called and said that it is only compatable with the 12-24mm lenses, I suppose it vigenettes with the 10.5mm. The dive shop said they are working on one for the 10.5mm that will be out later.

I'm not sure what to do. Any info on if it is removable or not? Maybe there is no real value to a shade on the FE lens? What did folks do with the aquatica shade? I think they have two shades, one of WA zooms and one for the FE. I only want to have one shade, and mainly I think its to protect the dome.

Next dive trip is November 18th

When I talke with Ikelite, I mentioned that I had both 10.5 and 12-24. They sold me the short stalk for the 10.5 and indicated the shield would work with that short stalk on the 8" dome.

I'm like you, I want it for protection. I've been lucky sticking that big expensive piece in some sharp places.

    Thanks and dive cheefully!

  4. It works fine on the older 8" domes that Ike sold that were made by Aquatica. I don't know about the new ones.

Wow, alot has changed since I last went on the Ikelite website. I just talked to Ikelite on the phone and here is the scoop:

The current batch of shades won't work with the 10.5mm. They are too long. They are starting a new version that will work with the 10.5mm but won't be available until December. Ok I'll wait and use it on the next trip.

  6. Study the photos on current URL:

They only need to grind off shade corners in bottom right photo so it looks like the shade above it to keep from clipping the corners with widest lenses. Believe this will be done within the next week or so rather than wait for a mold change...............

  7. Thanks Ike! ;)

I put one on order through my dive shop today. Hope to have it soon for a pool test.

Thanks for working so hard to meet all of our arbitrary deadlines :)

  8. Does anybody know where I can buy this shade? Ryan (at Reef Photo) doesn't have them in stock yet. I'm leaving for Cozumel in 10 days and I REALLY want this port shade!

    Thanks

    Brian

  9. What did folks do with the aquatica shade?

We have two dome shade, one for fisheye, either the 10.5mm or the 16mm Nikon or for the 15mm Canon / Sigma and the other beefier version for wide angle lens 12mm an plus. If you have a fisheye in your lens roster I recommand getting the shade for that and skip the other. I mainly use it as a bumper keeping falling strobe arms, knocking from other housings and also as prevention to rubbing again'st non skid boat surface, rocks, weight belt, shark belly, rusty wreck... and finnally it allows the housing to be laid down face down for easier card changing! Oh and yeah it also shade the lens from the sun ! :D

  10. Just got my new Ikelite dome shade for the 8" port.

I have one of the ground down versions. It arrived in time for my trip next week! Thanks Ike!

The new low price was $100. Very reasonable.

The quality is great and it fit perfectly. It does not vignette with the 10.5mm lens.

The best part is that it really seems to protect the dome. With the new dome cover in place I almost don't need the tupperware container I bought as a case. It feels strong and secure. The best part is that its long enough to prevent the dome contacting a flat surface when its laid down on its face.

Perfect Ike! Can't wait to try it out in Mexico. :guiness:

  11. I heard mine Dabigadome with shade is in today as well. Can't wait to test it.

  12. I used mine in Cozumel two weeks ago and it worked great. But, I wasn't sure how tightly I should turn the set screws. If I screwed them in enough to really "bite" the shade bulged out. I ended up not cranking them too tight and the shade starting spinning around on the dome after a few dives. I guess I'll tighten the set screws a little tighter....

I agree - it's a great way to protect the dome port and adds to piece of mind when using it.
