Magic Filter/ISO Question

  1. hi guys,

i will be a first time magic filter user on my next holiday later this year.

iam using d70+12-24mm+magic filter and just want to ask how should i

set the ISO in this setup!?

as it is natural light shooting should i set it to AUTO or manuel 200++ ??

normaly i only use the lowest aviable which is 200 at the d70.

    TIA

  2. HI,

I used the same combination in the Red Sea when on Alex's

workshop I used ISO 200 & 400 & had some very good results

the only problem I had was setting the white balance manually

but now I have got a Padi photography state used it topside but have

not tried it in the wet stuff yet.

  3. Usually I don't use ISO higher then 400 since the D70 can be quit noisy.

Andy, what was the problem with the WB? I found it quit easy with that camera.

  4. HI,

the problem I had was when using a magic filter, I think the problem was more to

do with gaining something white for the camera to lock on to, at times with strong

currents with the camera opened up with a slow shutter speed. I can manage to

do this every time topside thats why I got the slate only time will tell.

  5. I usually use sand as the white reference and if I don't have it (as in Ras Mohamed ) I just set the WB against the area I'm going to shut, since I use RAW I can make a fine adjustments later but most of the times I finds the WB that the camera choose best or very very close.

  6. What is the PADI photography slate? I 've been looking for a good grey card to use UW but wasn't sure if the ones I saw at B&H were waterproof. I have a dive slate but he main issue with those is getting the camera to focus lock on a plain white subject. Last time I used the sand and it worked ok but still sometimes had trouble locking focus.

RAW is the best. When I got frustrated with the process or the action was happenning I just shot away and fixed it later.

  7. HI,

the padi slate has been purposely made for adjusting WB,

one side is white & the other side is Grey. (it even has user

    instructions printed on both sides)
