Help me connect my YS 90 AUTO

5 posts
  1. Hello... I just flooded my film camera, (Motormarine II) that I have had forever, so I am brand new to digital. I now have the digital equipment described, but I don't know how to connect the YS 90 to the camera housing, the Olympus SP 320 and the Olympus PT 030. Can you help a digital dummy?

  2. I used to dive with a similar Olympus Housing. Best way to use an external strobe with it is to get an Ultra Light Tray and handle that will srew into the threaded tripod hole in the bottom of the housing. (you may have a counterweight attached there, you will not need the weight with the strobe tray) I used a 5in Ultra Light arm segment w/ ball joins & clamps to attach the strobe.

To fire the strobe, I used a fiber optic cable attached to the diffuser over the slave sensor on the strobe run to the flash diffuser on the housing. Be sure to cover the housed camera flash with black tape to avoid backscatter from the camera flash.

Let me know if you have further questions,

    John

Thanks!!! Where is the best place to get a fiber optic cable? The Sea & Sea website is a nightmare.

  5. Hi Allen,

If you'd like to use TTL with the YS-90, then you'll be wanting a Heinrichs Digital TTL Adpater:

    Heinrichs Weikamp

Matthias Heinrichs does post on here so you may want to drop him a PM and ask about using the adapter with your camera. His matrix shows it as untested as yet, but it would be likely to work as it does work with the SP-350.

If you use a fibre optic cable it will be cheaper but you'll be running manual. That may be exactly what you want, but I thought I'd mention the alternative.

BTW, If you put your location in your profile it helps people give you location-specific advice.
