Repair an Ike strobe cable?

4 posts
  1. I have an Ike housing that I use with 2 old, pre-digital Ike strobes. On my last trip both strobes died - except they were fine it was the cable, the strobes don't fire unless I waggle the cable around a bit and hold it in a curve close to where it attaches to the housing, which I assume means that one of the wires inside is broken or has come loose.

So - can I reopair this, it looks easy enough to take apart, fix and reassemble and if it were a dry unit I wouldn't hesitate, but as it's for u/w use is it possible/woth the attempt, or should I get a new one?

  2. Just to finish this off.....

.....bought a small soldering iron and did the job in under an hour. Straightforward, just a bit fiddly. When I stripped the cable three of the five wires had broken, all at the same distance from the plug, about 1".

    Strobes now fire flawlessly.

Now to find a way to avoid the cable bending and breaking in the first place.
