Whats you opinion on the issue of having two identical strobes versus one large and one small?
I have been advised both ways of doing it, and I am a little unsure as to what way is the best.
I was thinking aobut putting a Ike 200 on one arm and a 50 on the other for some fill, with both hooked up with a dual sync cord.
Opinions?
I've used a pair of YS120s for about a year, but just started using a YS 90 along with a 120. Not much difference really, except the weight and size savings. Since I always set the second strobe at low output, this new config works just fine. The only disadvantage is it when I'd like to reverse primary and fill strobes - like when shooting vertical with the rt strobe higher than the left.
Some photographers use a diffuser on the fill strobe to reduce its power as well.
If you use 2 strobes with the same power, then it is easy to get ratioed lighting by changing the power output of the strobes. If they are of different power to begin with it takes a lot more effort to get the ratio of lighting that you desire.
Note a Sea and Sea rep once told me that the 90 and 120 have the same guide number. That they just differ by angle of coverage and recycle time. If so youe woudln't notice any difference if you used a 90 and a 120.
I can see if you're on a budget or if you already have a large strobe and you want to add abother without a huge expense. But if given the choice I can't see on disadvantage of buying two of the same strobes. As for reasons, they were already mentioned.
correct, to my understanding, they have the same GN #
