Diopters?? Spin off from Acceptable Sharpness

  1. Being a rank amateur, non-techno, lazy hobbyist I follow some of the Acceptable Sharpness thread but in the end get lost.

I just want to know WHAT Diopters you are using, on what lenses? Maybe we can start a list. Being selfish I am most interested in the following lenses behind the Aquatica 8†dome. So what are you using or suggest using????

    Nikon

    10.5

    12-24

    17-55

    60 (Macro flat port)

    105 (Macro flat port)

  2. With a Subal dome I use +2 on the 12-24, +1 on the 17-55

  3. Only one of you willing to share your secrets???

  4. Hellow NWdiver, the proper diopter as less to do about the lend than the actual port, an 8" dome is optimised with a + 3 diopter, preferably a good quality one. Julian wrote a good text on that subject

Then there is also the placement of the dome to take into consideration.

One thing to remember is that in the case of macro lens they are used for magnification and when using Wide angle lens they are for aleviating the lack of close focusing of some lenses. the only ones in your list requiring diopter would be the 12-24 and the 17-55 (optional).

the 10.5 does not accept nor require a diopter and for the macro are used only if you require more magnification, but you'll sacrifice your far away focusing possibility (fish, diver...)
