Nikonos V cable to 10-pin connector?

2 posts
  1. For my PhD, I am imaging sediment transport in the Everglades with a Nikon D2xs and Nikon SB-800 speedlight. I am having a custom housing built for the camera, and my machinist and I are struggling with the interface between the Nikonos 5pin sync cable and the camera. Due to space constraints, we'd rather not have this connection go through the hot shoe, though doing so is most straightforward. Does anyone know of a way to solder the Nikonos V to a 10-pin Nikon cable? I found two excellent descriptions of pinouts, but I'm not sure which pins to connect, and I don't want to take any chances on frying the camera!

Alternatively, does anyone know how to solder the Nikonos cable to a 2-pin PC cable? The TTL capability isn't really needed for what I am doing...

I would be forever indebted to anyone who can get back to me ASAP! Doing so could make the difference between me graduating on time and having to stay on another year, unfunded!

Here are the pinouts I found:

  2. You can use an SC11 cable from Nikon which is the best solution as it actually screws into that confusingly called 'PC' socket (I think they now refer to this as an ISO519 flash sync socket) which is immediately above the 10 pin socket. You'll have to cut it in half and solder it into the ground and X contacts - this probably also has the advantage of being a voltage protected circuit but it may just be polarity sensitive - if it doesn't work rewire it the other way around - or alternatively check in the camera's manual or ask Nikon or a Nikon repairer for their advice. I've fitted Nikonos sockets for both Canon EOS1D series (not polarity sensitive) and Nikon D1 series cameras using half of of these SC11 cables and they have proved cheap and reiable as a manual flash trigger socket.
