Recommendation for a DSLR like camera? Or Olympus C7070

3 posts
  1. Trying to look for a replacement of my Olympus C-7070, which does not seem to be available either new or second hand anywhere. If anybody knows where I can get one through the internet, please let me know.

Have been looking at Canon G7. Has anybody used this and can comment on how good it is for underwater photography?

Any other recommendations for a DSLR-like/prosumer grade camera from Olympus or Fujifilm?

  2. No one has used the G7 underwater yet, as it is still too new. It fails to have raw, so if that is important to you, it is not an option. Also, it has an arbitrary extra 1/2 second of shutter lag, when using flash - internal or external. So it makes it harder to catch what you want underwater.

I looked for a 7070, and did not find one either. Too bad eh? Perhaps a canon pro-1 they are still around new, used, and refurbed at amazon...

If you want raw, the fuji e900 seems to be popular underwater, but no hotshoe.

  3. Thanks for the reply. Not too fussed about RAW, but I just heard that they are recalling the underwater casing for G7, so don't want to risk it. Happy I managed to convince a friend of mine who wants to upgrade to DSLR to part with his C7070. Bought it at a premium, but at least I can continue using my INON lens for that casing. :(
