eTTL converters

  1. I am wondering if I should give H.Weikamps eTTL converter a try since I do mainly macro. Has anyone had hands-on experience with this unit?

    Chris :)

  2. The Heinrichs Weikamp eTTL adapter is a very capable unit. IIRC there are a few wetpixel folk who are using it with the Z220 strobes. I got one while I was trying to house my old 20D in a Sea&Sea D60 housing.

Another option is the Sea&Sea TTL converter for Canon, which is funtionally very similar, but is an external unit with a compensation knob and the option to choose full manual operation during a dive. It's more clunky in terms of size and positioning, but it's nice to have an external option for those who like it.

  3. I can't speak for Cannon, but I use the Sea & Sea iTTL for my Nikon D200 and it works very well for my macro. I find that I am better at manual adjustments for Wide Angle, but in general it is a fine piece of equipment.

    Take care,

Can anyone else offer their experience with the sea & sea iTTL converter on a d200?

Accuracy? reliabilty? ease of use? do you ever need more than the 1 stop +/- available on the unit?

Can you set it to '0' and use the camera's flash exp compensation control to get more than the +/- 1 stop?

    thanks

  5. It works very well on my Canon EOS5D housed by Aquatica with double S&S YS120 strobes. I just did change the compensation suite to +0,5 on TTL converter board.

  7. Thanks. Those look great. Can you give some of your shot settings and lenses used?

  8. Hi Chris,

I'm almost use Canon or Sigma 15mm Fisheye for WA shots and Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro + Tamron TC 2x for Macros.

I love the 5D picture style files, they are great and I use Landscape for WA and Portrait for Macro shots with some adjusts for both, with Auto White Balance.

If you need information about apperture and speed, please, visit my gallery at Pbase (www.pbase.com/famorim/underwater)

    Thanks. Fabio

  9. I have the converter installed in my Subal housing for use with the 20D and Inon strobes. I am very happy with it. All galleries at my website from Port Hardy 2005 onwards are with the Canon 20D, TTL converter, and Inon strobes.

  10. Thanks for the info. Very helpful. Is it possible to switch over to manual strobes and back to TTL while UW? Also, does the flash exposure compenstion work with the system?

    Chris

  11. Hi Chris,

unfortunately not, that is the only problem tha I found with TLL converter. The power switch is located on converter board, so you need open your housing to change it.

  12. This last question is an interesting one. It would appear that if your strobes can be switched into a mode that ignores both the qunech signal and the preflash, which certainly the Sea&Sea YS110 strobes have, then you can switch to manual even with the Heinrichs module in full TTL mode.

Now whether there is an analogous mode on the Inon strobes remains to be seen. Any testers?
